The oldest existing U.S. blues society, the Santa Barbara Blues Society (SBBS) will present its annual acoustic Member Appreciation Show at the beautifully renovated New Victoria Theatre, 33 W. Victoria St. in downtown S.B.
The show will feature Bernie Pearl, noted singer, guitarist, teacher, promoter, producer, and blues historian. Pearl’s brother owned the famed Ash Grove venue in Los Angeles, where Bernie was fortunate to meet and learn from legendary blues icons Mississippi Fred McDowell, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Mance Lipscomb. Pearl played with all of them, as well as a pantheon of greats including B.B. King, Albert Collins, Freddie King, John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, and Big Joe Turner. His multiple album releases with his own band and as soloist have been highly praised, and two of his acoustic albums with the late Harmonica Fats were recognized by the Blues Foundation.
The event takes place on Sunday, May 21, 2017. Doors open at 1 PM, and there will be free BBQ snacks. Music will begin at 2:00 PM, two sets with an intermission.
This event is FREE for all S.B. Blues Society members, and only $10 for everyone else. Memberships will be available at the show. For more information, click HERE or leave name and phone number at (805) 722-8155.
